Day Five's reflections- The temperature was below zero today. My way to show a little more kindness was to scatter birdseed on my second story deck and the concrete below it. A few minutes later I was rewarded with birds and squirrels who were snatching up the food. I felt happyI was able to help a few of God's creatures face the frigid weather.

Writing again

I've been remiss in keeping up this blog but I'm vowing to do better. School is busy and we've just completed our first trimester. Hard to believe that it is one third done and that Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away. Happy New Year!

Today I'm beginning a daily post called Thirty Days, Thirty Simple Ways to a Happier You. Please take a look and comment. I'd love to hear your ideas. I'll be adding a comment each day through the month. This past year I’ve found myself dragging through the days and exhausted by the time evening rolls around. I teach middle school full-time and write fiction part-time. I wanted more energy and enthusiasm to write for an hour or so evenings and not have it feel like another job.   As a teacher I’m always giving out tasks. It dawned on me that I should be taking on some assignments too. The following is my opportunity to help myself. Perhaps some of these ideas may benefit you. Day Three

Day Three- Be kind to others .Surprise someone else with a small gift.   As a teacher I sometimes get little Christmas gifts from my students. One of my favorite this year was a five dollar gift card to a famous coffee shop. That modest amount was enough for an indulgent muffin and a small house blend. It made my day.     The gift doesn’t have to be expensive and you don’t need to know the person. Why not buy the guy behind   you his morning coffee? Pick up your spouse’s favorite ice cream or candy bar. Have it ready for a bad day. The neat thing about this is that you’ll get as much happiness as they will. Who knows, someone may do it for you!
